Some basic information about silica

The most abundant of all oxidized minerals in the earth's crust is silica or silica. It exists not only with other oxide minerals but also in its isolated form, such as sand. The semi-precious mineral opal is amorphous silica that has been favored for centuries.

Silica has played an important role not only in biology but also in civilization. Flint is silica used in ancient tools. The sand used in pottery is also a type of silica. For more than 2,000 years, Roman cement has contained amorphous silica in pozzolans, helping to increase its strength and durability. Current technology would be different without the silica used to produce refinery catalysts, bond molds used to cast superalloys, form modern glass and ceramics, and polish electronic materials.
