Silica sol manufacturers tell you what are the hazards?
Silica sol is a colloidal solution, odorless and non-toxic. Silica sol is a dispersion of nano-sized silica particles in water or solvent. Since the SiO2 in the silica sol contains a lot of water and hydroxyl groups, the silica sol can also be expressed as SiO2.nH2O.
The ion exchange process of silica sol was developed by NALCO Company in the United States in the 1940s, and later perfected by DuPont in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. Now it is the most mature and the most commonly used process. This process has certain requirements for water glass, ion exchange resin and other materials and operating processes, and these are the weaknesses of domestic products. Relatively speaking, the one-step hydrolysis method of silicon powder is relatively simple, and is now widely used in China. However, the average particle size of the silica sol prepared by this method is about 10-20 nanometers, the interface between the particles is not clear, the description is non-spherical and uncontrollable, and the interface between the particles is not clear, so it is generally used in casting, etc. Industry, but in the precision polishing, catalysts and many other more demanding scopes, there is no great achievement. Compared with international famous silica sol brands, the main defects of domestic silica sol manufacturers are high impurity content, no strict control of particle size, no strict inspection of particle size, low concentration of silica, acid or neutral conditions. Poor stability, short use cycle, more or less color, less variety, etc. Today, the internationally renowned silica sol manufacturers include DuPont and Grace's LUDOX series.
Silica sol is harmful to human body:
The composition of silica sol is amorphous silica particles, water and a small amount of stabilizer (such as Na+, K+, NH4+). Silica sol manufacturers are not listed as harmful chemicals, but they are mildly irritating (alkaline like soapy water, acidic like vinegar). When using silica sol, try to wear protective gloves and goggles. When touching the skin, use a lot of water to wash the touched part; when touching the eyes, use a lot of water to rinse. If the symptoms are not relieved, please seek professional medical treatment.
Silica sol is harmful to the environment:
Silica sol is mainly composed of silica particles and water, so it is listed as one of the more environmentally friendly industrial chemicals. Silica is the main component of sand, quartz, crystal, and is a non-toxic and tasteless mineral, so silica sol is not classified as a harmful chemical. Silicon dioxide is widely used in the food industry, such as food-grade silicon dioxide powder as a food dispersant, anti-caking agent, etc.; in the food processing industry such as fruit wine and beverages, silica sol is often used as a flocculant to improve Product clarity. Therefore, silica sol is an environmentally friendly chemical.
